A thirty-eight-year-old National Police officer died last night, Wednesday 7th October, in Alicante following a tragic accident involving his own patrol car. According to reports, José Daniel had stopped the vehicle to run an errand at the police vehicle depot on Calle Campo de Mirra. The car, which lacked its handbrake engaged, began to move once he opened the boot. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle manually but was knocked down and struck against a bollard.
Daniel, who originated from Seville and served within the Citizen Assistance Group of the Citizen Security Brigade, was accompanied by a trainee officer at the time, who promptly alerted emergency services. Despite all attempts by responders to resuscitate him, it was not possible to save his life.
The incident occurred shortly before 9:00 p.m., drawing medical emergency agents, a fire crew, local police officers, and national police officers to the scene.
The aforementioned media outlet also notes that the body has been transferred to the Institute of Legal Medicine to undergo an autopsy.
Both the National Police Corps and various police unions have expressed their deep sorrow and regret over the accident that resulted in the officer’s death.
