The Guardia Civil has arrested a 21-year-old man in Dolores as the suspected perpetrator of an intentional hit-and-run involving two people. Investigators established that the manoeuvre targeted the victims and that the attack was a reprisal following an argument.
The incident occurred in the early hours of 13th September on a street in the town centre, where an emergency call was received regarding the striking of two people, aged 20 and 29.
The vehicle subsequently collided with the pavement curb and the facade of a residential property, causing material damage. The suspect fled the scene and abandoned the vehicle nearby.
Investigators confirmed that the driver was travelling at a clearly inappropriate speed for the road conditions and executed a turn directed towards the spot where both victims were standing.
Reconstruction of the events
During the operation named Obtritio, officers from the Guardia Civil investigation unit in Dolores located the involved vehicle, which had been abandoned close to the scene of the incident.
An analysis of the damage sustained by the vehicle, combined with other information gathered throughout the investigation, allowed officers to advance the reconstruction of the events and determine the circumstances of the incident.
Following a dispute between the perpetrator and the two victims, the driver reportedly began dangerous driving, executing a sharp turn to change direction and aim the vehicle towards the other two people, charging at them and running them over.
Arrest
Once evidence was gathered and the driver identified, the Guardia Civil arrested a 21-year-old man in Dolores as the suspected person responsible.
The detainee faces two counts of attempted homicide and one count of reckless driving with manifest disregard for the lives of others.
The arrested individual has been brought before the Investigation Section of the Court of First Instance of Orihuela, which has ordered his release on bail pending trial.
