Six people have been arrested by the National Police after officers raided a property on Calle Marqués de Molins in Alicante and recovered numerous stolen items. Among those detained are two Algerian brothers who have left residents of the apartment block living in constant fear due to ongoing threats, fights, and disturbances.
The main two suspects appeared before the duty court in Alicante yesterday, Monday 26th October, charged with burglary, and were released on provisional bail. One brother also faces charges for making death threats against a female neighbour after she locked the door accessing the communal rooftop, an area residents say the brothers utilised to store stolen property.
The operation was conducted by the Judicial Police Operational Group of the Alicante Centre District Police Station. Officers carried out a court-authorised search of the flat, seizing keys, documentation, helmets, motorcycle top boxes, and various other items linked mainly to motorbikes. Sources close to the case stated that the brothers specialised in stealing motorcycle top boxes and the belongings stored inside, such as helmets and gloves. Police have already located several victims to return their property and continue to trace the origin of the remaining items.
In total, six individuals were arrested during the raid. Alongside the brothers, officers detained four tenants who were renting rooms inside the flat where the stolen goods were stored. The four tenants were released after questioning at the police station, while the primary suspects were held until their court appearance on Monday before being granted provisional release.
Both brothers are well known to the National Police and possess extensive criminal records. One brother had been arrested 26 times previously, while the other had 22 prior arrests, bringing their combined history to 48 arrests before this latest action. This is not the first time police have raided the premises; in the summer of 2025, officers searched the flat and seized a large quantity of stolen items, though the intervention failed to end the criminal activity or the distress of local residents.
The latest police intervention was triggered on Friday during another tense dispute at number 5 Calle Marqués de Molins. One brother was reported for threatening to kill a neighbour after she locked the roof access door. Officers were forced to break down the flat door to arrest the suspect.
Locals describe the situation in the building as intolerable, reporting that the brothers frequently cause disturbances in common areas, bang on doors, and demand money from residents to buy drugs. Property owners have filed at least three formal complaints regarding death threats and are requesting restraining orders to restore peace to the building.
Additionally, complaints have been filed regarding illegal squatting and fraudulent rentals. One property owner reported twice that the brothers broke into his flat by climbing down the interior courtyard. Once inside, they allegedly posed as the owners and rented the flat to third parties, demanding advance reservation fees and monthly rent. Neighbors also report frequent visits from individuals attempting to collect debts from the brothers, leading to shouting matches and fights in the stairwells that have caused significant damage to other residents’ doors.
Fear among neighbours intensified at the end of 2024 when a 31-year-old woman died after falling from the second-floor flat where the brothers live. Both were arrested in connection with the incident but were later released after it could not be proven that they caused the fall. Residents note that a second fall from the same flat occurred later. The ongoing safety concerns have led several residents to alter their daily routines to avoid the brothers, with some considering moving out entirely.
