Monument to the Cultures of the Mediterranean
Description
The Monument to the Cultures of the Mediterranean, or Monumento a las Culturas del Mediterráneo, is more popularly known as the “columns”, or “Las Columnas”, and hidden away at the north end of Torrevieja.
The monument is specifically located in Punta Carral, between Cala del Palangre and Playa del Cura, an area which was rundown for many years, but has been revived into a bustling area.
The monument actually pays homage to the different cultures that inhabit the Mediterranean. It consists of several columns of different styles covered with ceramics with motifs alluding to these civilizations.
They were built at the end of the 20th century, but aside from that, little is actually known about their creator or origin.
