A follow up meeting between the Orihuela town hall and roads department in Alicante took place this week, discussing the proposed closure of the access roads from the N332 roundabout at La Zenia.
The suggestions to open two roads previously blocked off were rejected, as the type of road the new N332 is would require access lanes which run alongside the road, rather than traditional T-junctions.
However, plans to install additional signs offering alternative routes to the Zenia Boulevard shopping centre were approved, including new route pointers from Punta Prima, the town hall and at the Cartagena end.
Similarly, the ministry agreed that the decision to make those roads one-way falls under the jurisdiction of the town hall, the ministry only having the power to declare the roads open or closed.
The ministry stated that they are happy to leave the situation as it is at the moment, not closing the roads in question, whilst the new mini roundabout at the junction for the future emergency coordination centre is built, which is progressing at the moment, then allow for traffic numbers and flow to be monitored under the newly proposed layout presented by the town hall.
