MORE JUDGES FOR REGIONAL COURTS

A total of 31 new judges will be added to the judicial system of the Valencia region from Monday, after swearing the oath to serve with the Superior Court of Valencia.

The locations where the judges will serve have all been selected as a matter of priority, “according to the most urgent needs”, and will serve the courts for a period of “at least” a year. Of these, 14 will be sent to cover the judicial offices in the province of Alicante, 3 in Castellón, and 14 in Valencia.

In addition to the provincial capital of Alicante, the judges will be covering cases in Orihuela, Torrevieja, Elche and Villajoyosa. It has been stressed that these judges are not replacements, but are provided to assist in the ever increasing backlog of cases and tremendous delays that the court system suffers.

The twenty women and eleven men were sworn in during a ceremony attended by King Juan Carlos.
