Torrevieja has commenced life guard services on the beaches of the city this week, with the Cruz Roja operating the 450,000 euro service, covering the dates between June and September. For the peak season, there will be 75 life guards operating from 26 surveillance points, which will reduce to 44 people in the lower end of the season.
In Orihuela, the delay in offering the service to tender after the original contractor pulled out has also resulted in a delay in the award and commencement of the service I the municipality, but the final legal process is now continuing, with the service looking set to start just a week late, around the 21st of June, then continuing to cover Easter next year and summer of 2015, with a maximum value of 325,000 euro.
