The Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre has opened its brand new Gran Alacant charity store next week, offering good quality second hand furniture, clothing and other items to residents of the urbanisation for the first time.
All money raised at the store, and the Rojales centre’s network of six other shops across the Alicante province, will help cover the feeding and care costs of more than 80 horses, ponies and donkeys rescued from abuse and neglect.
Rescue centre founders Sue and Rod Weeding said they had long wanted to bring a charity store to the Gran Alacant community and finally found the perfect location last month, with help from Karen at Gran Alacant Homefinders.
The new store that is situated behind Dialprix supermarket and opposite the bowls club opened on July 28th.
“The shops are the bloodline of the centre and really keep us going,” Sue said. “The locals have really rallied around us and we now have a fantastic group of volunteers staffing the shop, although we are still looking for more help.”
“We collect larger furniture donations and also offer a delivery service for furniture purchased in our stores using our new delivery van thanks to a kind donation by long-time supporter Kate Jansen. Before her donation earlier this year, Sue and Rod had only their horse trailer to rely on.
“There were actually three or four times where Rod and I were collecting donated furniture when we received a call from the police about a horse in danger and had to unload all the furniture to go and rescue the horse,” Sue said. “It just wasn’t a workable situation and we are very grateful for Kate’s help.”
Please contact Sue on 652 021 980 for more information about volunteering or to make donations. The Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre is grateful for any donations of good quality furniture, clothes and bric-a-brac to help stock their charity stores.
The public is invited to meet the centre’s many rescued animals each Sunday from 1pm-4pm. Entrance is free and guided tours begin at 2pm. Tasty food and refreshments are available in the garden café. There is often live music also.
Bar, restaurant and business owners are also welcome to stage charity events to support the centre. Please contact Sue on 652 021 980 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
EHCRC is located just outside Rojales at Partido Lo Garriga 59. For more details and directions to the centre, please visit www.easyhorsecare.net.
