DEMANDS FOR ANSWERS TO TORREVIEJA POLICE STATION ANNOUNCEMENT

Deputy of the Compromís-Equo group, Joan Baldoví, is demanding answers through parliament as to why Torrevieja will not get a National Police station, despite the plans and promises being made for years, and Torrevieja being allowed to fund the acquisition of land at the tax payer´s expense.

Baldoví says that, “we will raise a parliamentary question to the Ministry of Interior” to give explanations as to what has happened regarding the National Police station construction, explaining that “we must take into account that the municipality of Torrevieja ceded the land for the construction of this building in 2005 and there is a proposal to this effect, but the works are still not to start”.

Given the population and tourist number claims of Torrevieja, the city has insufficient security at the moment; an issue which Compromís believes should be addressed immediately. “Torrevieja is the only city of this size which does not have a National Police presence”, Baldoví concluded.

Although the installation of a touch screen video contact with the police has been praised as a technological innovation, the device itself will not be able to respond to the security or safety needs of the citizens any quicker than a telephone call. In fact, given that most people carry a mobile phone, an emergency response is far more likely to occur by telephone, rather than a static information booth.
