With the earlier than expected arrival of Danish entrant Team Vestas Wind in the early hours of this morning, Monday, the entire seven yacht Volvo Ocean Race fleet is now alongside in Alicante. With less than a month to go before hostilities start, it’s full steam ahead for the crews as they begin to prepare both their boats and themselves.

Saturday October the 11th is D-Day for the 2014/15 edition which, for the first time in more than a decade, features an all female crew, Team SCA. A week before the official departure, Alicante will stage its In-Port race, the final test of men, machines and countless hours of meticulous planning.

Taking the start alongside SCA and Vestas Wind will be Chinese entrant Dong Feng Race Team, Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing, (once again skippered by Brit Ian Walker), Team Brunel, Turkish/American venture Team Alvimedica and Team Spain for whom Iker Martinez and Xabier Fernández will be looking to give their home nation a first win in the race.

To savour the sights and sounds of the Volvo Ocean Race, get yourselves down to the Volvo Race Village which opens its doors to the public with a gala event on Thursday evening October the 2nd. There, you can see the Volvo Ocean 65 yachts close up together with a host of attractions and free entertainment.
