FIVE INJURED IN ELCHE ROUNDABOUT CRASHES

Five people were injured in a two bizarre crashes on roundabouts in Elche on Monday, occurring within hours of each other and close proximity.

The first crash occurred at around 4 in the morning when a car heading towards Elche on the Santa Pola road mounted the roundabout at the intersection of the south ring road and crashed into a fountain. The occupants managed to escape the vehicle before it burst into flames.

The second crash was around noon, when a car mounted the roundabout at the junction of avenidas El Altet and Manuel Martínez Valero, close to the Elche football ground, landing on its side. The occupant of this vehicle had to be extracted by fire fighters. Medical staff had to call on the assistance of the police to restrain the driver for treatment, after the 24 year old was said to be suffering an anxiety attack after the incident.

The victims were all taken to hospital by medical staff, in varying degrees of injury, although none were life-threatening.
