Experts now realize that language training is essential for greater guarantees and access to increasingly demanding labour markets.
This is something that the Ministry of Education has also come to realise and, as such, authorities have said that they aim to accelerate the implementation of multilingual education into Valencian schools.
From next year, according to Education Councillor María José Catalá, as the Valencian Region invest more resources into bilingual educational programmes, there will be 477 schools in the Region that will offer lessons using the multilingual model with all schools fulfilling the programme by the year 2020-21.
Of those 153 will be in Alicante, 53 in Castellon and 271 in Valencia. There will also be 42 new centers where the amount of multilingual education currently offered, will be doubled.
Establishments will be able to choose the courses that they offer in, predominantly, English. They will vary from natural or social sciences, to physical education, and mathematics
The councilor said that in order to implement this type of multilingual education it is necessary to have a highly trained teachers, which is why in recent years the teacher training courses in the region have focused on the English language and on new technologies.
