The Torrevieja Town Council has awarded the contract for the redevelopment of the Los Locos beach area to the firm Pavasal. The project, which was approved on Friday, May 8th, by the Local Government Board, has been valued at 8,592,352 euro. This figure follows a bid by the company that represented a 14.65% reduction from the original tender price.
The comprehensive transformation of the coastal promenade is expected to take 18 months to complete. The project aims to fully modernise the area by improving accessibility, increasing pedestrian space and strengthening the link between the town and the beach. Designed by Valencia-based architect Juan Ignacio Fuster Marcos, the plans have been adapted to meet requirements set out by the regional Ministry of Environment, Infrastructure and Territory, and the Provincial Coastal Service.
The redevelopment covers a total area of 21,044 square metres and includes the pedestrianisation of more than 1,100 metres of the coastline. The upgrades will introduce new green spaces, additional trees, modern street furniture, children’s play areas and healthy exercise zones for residents and visitors.
Councillor for Urban Services, Sandra Sánchez, explained that the works will be carried out in four distinct phases. This approach will allow completed sections to be opened progressively and ensure that access to the beach is maintained throughout the construction period. The first phase will focus on the stretch between Calle La Sal and Avenida de las Habaneras. This specific area was chosen because it is expected to have the least impact on tourism during the upcoming summer season.
The council has stated that the effects of the construction will be managed on a case-by-case basis. This strategy is intended to minimise disruption to road and pedestrian traffic, public transport, and access to local homes, garages and businesses in the surrounding Torrevieja area.
