A court in Torrevieja has acquitted several partners of a local casino who were facing charges related to false testimony. The legal proceedings followed a lengthy investigation into statements made during a previous trial, where it was alleged that the defendants had provided inaccurate information to the judiciary regarding the internal management and financial dealings of the establishment.
The magistrate ruled that there was insufficient evidence to prove that the individuals intentionally misled the court. Throughout the trial, the defence argued that any discrepancies in the testimonies were due to lapses in memory or administrative complexities rather than a deliberate attempt to obstruct justice. This ruling brings an end to a period of significant legal uncertainty for the Torrevieja casino and its leadership.
The prosecution had initially sought penalties including fines and potential prison sentences, but the judge found that the burden of proof had not been met. Consequently, the partners have been cleared of all criminal responsibility in this specific matter.
