Both the Amateur Radio Association of the Vega Baja (URE), and the Spanish Amateur Radio Union association (LRIs), composed mostly of local amateurs, spent the weekend transmitting from the submarine "S-61 Dolphin" and the Patrol Boat "Albatros III in the Torrevieja Marina.

The broadcasts were in celebration of ‘Ship Museum Weekend’ which was organised by the Amateur Radio Station of the US Battleship New Jersey together with the cooperation of the City of Torrevieja.

The aim of the weekend was to make contact with as many other museum ships and amateur radio stations across the world as possible, which they did with transmissions reaching over a hundred countries.

Local operators say that contacts they made during the weekend will now enable them to draw a map of historic vessels that can be found throughout the world

The "Dolphin S-61" is 58 meters long, with capacity for 60 crew. It was given to the city of Torrevieja by the Ministry of Defence and first entered service as a Ship Museum in 2004.

Moored adjacent to the Dolphin is the 32 meter patrol boat "Albatros III” a former Marine Customs Surveillance vessel.
