Which is the Cheapest Supermarket where You Live?

A consumer association, the Organización de Consumidores y Usuarios, or OCU, has released its annual study that looks at the prices of everyday products sold in supermarkets and hypermarkets across Spain.

The aim of the report is to compare prices, partly to show an unfair balance towards the consumer, but more importantly perhaps for us, it shows us where our money goes furthest.

One of the general trends observed through the national study is that Mercadona is a favourable grocery store, and given the company´s ethos for looking after staff through profit share and bonus schemes, it looks like everyone´s a winner in the chain that forms one of the largest companies in the country.

Locally for us, for the Alicante province, top of the shops is relative newcomer Supeco, on Carrús Av Novelda in Elche, whereas in Murcia it´s Alcampo, located in the Thader shopping centre, across the way from Ikea.
