The Guardia Civil has arrested a man and a woman in Torrevieja for allegedly using the “hug” approach to steal from an elderly person. The operation is under the Senior Citizen Safety Plan, which aims to protect older individuals.
The event happened on Tuesday morning, February 10th, at 1:00 PM, near the well-known Curva del Palangre (Langre Curve). A homeowner called the Guardia Civil after observing a woman steal a gold necklace from an elderly person wandering in the neighbourhood.
A witness recorded the precise moment of the theft
The witness was able to capture the theft on his mobile phone, providing valuable evidence for the inquiry. After acquiring information regarding the vehicle in which the suspects left, a search operation was initiated right away.
Minutes later, two patrol cars guarding one of Torrevieja’s exits saw the suspicious vehicle and stopped it. The witness’s description of the vehicle and its passengers was completely accurate.
During the agents’ comprehensive investigation of the car and its occupants, they discovered the stolen gold chain in one of the woman’s trouser pockets.
Police seek help in identifying the victim
Both were arrested as suspected thieves and then turned over to the proper legal authority, who ordered their release with precautionary measures.
Although the Guardia Civil has photographs of the victim, they are asking for public aid in identifying him and returning the recovered chain. Anyone with information can call the Civil Guard’s main station in Torrevieja at 965 71 01 13.
