Last week, two people stole a gold necklace from Torrevieja using the “hug method.” Yesterday Tuesday February 24th, the Guardia Civil gave it back to its rightful owner.
Last Friday, the Guardia Civil Command in Alicante asked the public for help in finding the victim and getting the stolen jewellery back. Four days later, a neighbour of the victim called him because the news had spread and the information had gotten out.
After the victim, an old man, was identified, an officer gave him the necklace. The victim thanked the officers for their work and the public for their help in making this happen.
As part of the Senior Citizen Safety Plan, the Guardia Civil arrested a man and a woman in the town on suspicion of theft. The event took place last Tuesday, when police got a call from a local who said they saw a woman steal a gold necklace from an elderly person wandering in the town.
The robbery happened close to the famous Curva del Palangre (Langre Curve). The witness was able to record the exact moment of the theft on his mobile phone, which provided key evidence for the police inquiry that followed.
A search effort started right away after police got information about the car that a man and a woman had used to get away from the scene.
A few minutes later, two patrol cars guarding one of the exits from Torrevieja found the suspicious car and stopped it. The officers confirmed that both the automobile and the people inside it fit the witness’s description perfectly after the first check.
So, the car and the suspects were searched very carefully, and the stolen gold chain was found in one of the women’s trousers pockets.
Both were arrested on suspicion of stealing and then taken before the proper court, which authorised their release with the implementation of preventive measures.
