The Vatican has declared that Pope Leo XIV will visit Spain officially this summer, from Saturday, June 6th, to Friday, June 12th, 2026.
This is the first time in nearly 15 years that a Pope has been to Spain. Pope Benedict XVI was the last pope to visit the country, which was in 2011.
The Pope is expected to visit various places in Spain during his week-long trip, such as Madrid, Barcelona, and the Canary Islands.
One of the primary activities in Barcelona will be a Mass to celebrate the opening of the Tower of Jesus Christ at the Sagrada Familia church. This event will happen on the 100th anniversary of Antoni Gaudí’s death. He was the architect who built the church.
Spanish Church leaders have praised the announcement, stating that the visit is important and joyful for the Catholic community.
There isn’t a comprehensive schedule of events and times available yet; these details should be made public in the next few weeks.
The Pope will be quite busy travelling internationally in 2026, and this trip is only one of several.
