The National Police have detained a 38-year-old woman in Alicante who is accused of taking 13,400 euros in cash and two winning lottery tickets for 120 euros from a friend who used to work with her and invited her to lunch at her house last December.
The detained woman was in the company of the victim and another friend. According to the police inquiry, the theft happened when she “disappeared” for 40 minutes, saying she was going to the toilet and doing a “Palo Santo” ceremony to cleanse and purify the house with this burning wood. We don’t know if she really used the spiritual “Palo Santo” wood to get rid of bad energies in the house, but we do know that she “cleansed” the money the victim was saving for bathroom repairs.
The woman who was arrested by agents from the North District Police Station’s Judicial Police Operational Group in Alicante had no previous criminal record. She was freed on bond after delivering a statement in mid-January as the suspected thief.
People who used to work with you
The incidents that have been explained happened in Alicante at the end of last December. The person who complained said that she had two friends and former coworkers from a medical aesthetics centre over for lunch at her house. The next day, she found that 13,400 euros that she had saved to help pay for part of her bathroom renovation were gone, along with two winning lottery tickets worth 20 and 100 euros that she had in her purse.
The woman informed the police that one of her pals mentioned she had an upset stomach and needed to go to the toilet while they were talking at her residence. The buddy was gone for approximately forty minutes. When she came back, she said she had cleaned the house with palo santo and used the bathroom.
The three friends left their house in the middle of the afternoon to go get drinks. The woman who is now being looked into urged them to stop by the parking lot where her car was parked. There, she put down a bag that was probably full of stolen money, and the three of them then headed to a pub.
The next day, she found out that her cash and two lottery tickets were missing from her purse. At first, she assumed that watches and jewellery worth more than €30,000 had also been stolen, but they had just been moved. The woman called two friends to tell them what had happened, and at first, both said they didn’t know anything.
But when she told them later that she had called the police, one of them admitted it. The victim says that the two met at a café and that the cheating buddy gave her €8,000 in exchange for her dropping the allegations. She stated she would sign an acknowledgement of obligation for the other €5,400 and pay her €200 a month. She turned down the offer and kept asking for the money back, but she didn’t get it.
The acquaintance was called to the Provincial Police Station in Alicante and arrested for the theft. She only admitted to taking the 8,000 euros that she has already given back to the victim and the two winning lottery tickets for 120 euros.
