Morrissey, an English singer, has said he won’t be able to play the first of three concerts in Spain tonight because he hasn’t gotten enough sleep and “because of the noise” in Valencia, which is getting ready for its Fallas festival.
The former Smiths frontman says on his website that he drove from Milan to Valencia, where the Fallas festival starts this weekend, but he hasn’t been able to sleep there because of the noise. The performance is off. The statement ends with “Circumstances make it impossible,” and then there was another one that gave additional information called “Mental in Valencia.” This was a paraphrase of the lyrics and the short mention of Valencia in his famous anti-bullfighting song “The Bullfighter Dies”. Morrissey got to his hotel in Valencia late on Wednesday after a two-day drive. The loud techno music, festival noise, and announcements over the PA system kept him from sleeping or resting all night. He says, “This experience left Morrissey in a catatonic state.”
The concert was supposed to be the first one in Spain for the Manchester singer. He was on tour to promote his new album, “Make-up is a lie.” The trip will continue on Saturday in Zaragoza and next Monday in Seville.
The 1,500 tickets for the Auditorium of the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia sold out within minutes of being on sale months ago. This concert was to be the first that the former lead singer of The Smiths would give in Valencia throughout his 40-year career.
We don’t know yet if the concert promoter will help people who bought tickets for this show.
This cancellation would be the first of Morrissey’s current European tour. He has previously played in Denmark, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, England, France, Switzerland, and Italy in the last month. His last concert was last Monday in Milan.
