The National Police have arrested two South American juveniles, ages 16 and 17, who stabbed a 19-year-old woman up to five times on February 12th when she was walking through the streets of Alicante with a friend.
The attackers, who were wearing masks to hide their faces and carrying a large knife, came up behind her and told her to give them her belongings.
The males, who are now in jail, stabbed the young woman five times when she turned down their advances while she was wandering near the Alicante bullring. One of the wounds went all the way through her lung, which caused a pneumothorax. The attackers stole the 20-year-old woman’s phone and ID before running away on foot.
After the savage attack, the lady who had been stabbed was taken to Alicante University General Hospital right away. There, she had surgery to fix a pneumothorax and was then sent to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The young woman was sent home from the hospital after making positive progress. She is now healing with her family.
The investigation, which started right after the attack, helped the Specialised and Violent Crime Unit (UDEV) of the Provincial Brigade of Judicial Police of Alicante get closer to the suspects. They were found and arrested this Thursday, March 12th, a month after the stabbing that could have ended in tragedy.
During the investigation, officers looked at the first evidence collected after the attack and put up a timeline of the suspects’ travels. This helped them find and arrest the culprits. The inquiry put the two juveniles near the place where the attack happened. Police found the knife used in the attack and stolen papers in the youths’ homes.
The Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office will now look into the details of the case and decide what to do with the two inmates. A court will have to decide whether or not they are guilty of a crime.
