The Guardia Civil arrested two men, ages 36 and 32, in the Alicante municipality of Torrevieja as they were driving a stolen high-end car worth more than 80,000 euros that had been stolen in the UK. According to a statement from the armed institute, the operation started on March 5th at 8:00 a.m. when officers from the Guardia Civil’s main station were doing citizen security duties in the city centre. During the servicing, they saw a high-end car with UK plates that was being driven by two males. They checked to see if it had the required sticker showing where the car came from, and it didn’t.
Because of these problems, the agents did a “more thorough” inspection of the car. During this inspection, they found that the vehicle identification number (VIN) had “signs of manipulation in different points” and that it “did not” meet the brand’s “manufacturing and quality standards”. After doing the proper checks and getting the car’s “real data,” they confirmed that it had been stolen in the UK last year. The officers also found out that the passenger had first shown them a passport with a picture that didn’t look like him. Both the driver and the passenger, who were both Lithuanian citizens, were arrested on the scene for suspected document falsification and receiving stolen property. Also, it was found that the passenger had a criminal record for crimes against public health and organised crime, and there was a European arrest warrant out for him.
Failed escape
The inmates were brought to the main Guardia Civil station in Torrevieja for more processing. When the official car arrived at the station and the door opened, the passenger tried to escape on foot in front of the authorities.

He jumped over the barrier that led to the building. He broke through the barrier and hurt himself in multiple places during the jump, but the Civil Guard eventually grabbed him. Because of these things, he was given a fresh charge of damaging property. The two inmates and the car that was found were given to the right legal authorities, which ordered their release with safety precautions until the trial.
