Elche is moving forward with its plan to make the visitor experience better by starting two new projects: the digital tourist card “VisitElche Card” and a smart tourist signs system that will be put in place in the historic centre.
The Tourism Sustainability Plan for Destinations includes several projects, which aim to protect cultural treasures and make it easier for tourists to get around the city.
Irene Ruiz, the Councillor for Tourism, said that these measures are in addition to other things that have already been done as part of the plan, such fixing up the La Festa Museum and working on the Senderelx project.
A card to get to the tourist offer with the new “VisitElche Card,” tourists will be able to conveniently access multiple tourist resources from their phones.
There will be three time options for the system: 24, 48, and 72 hours. These will include entry to city museums, entrance to the tourist train, use of public transportation, and discounts on tourist activities.
The most complete card will also include the BiciElx bike service and guided tours of the historic center, which will help tourists learn about the city’s most important heritage monuments.
Ruiz said that the program will also let you collect statistics on how visitors behave, like how long they remain and which resources they visit the most.
Smart indicators to help you learn about historic sites
The smart tourism signage plan calls for putting up information displays at more than twenty historic sites in the city centre.
Some of these are famous places like the Basilica of Santa María, the Calahorra Tower, and the Arab Baths of Elche.
The signs will come in numerous forms, such as totems, panels, or information tables. They will also have QR codes that can be scanned with mobile devices to get further information.
The information will be in Spanish, Valencian, English, and French, and it will contain tourism itineraries that link to specialised digital platforms.
A method that is also easy to use The system will use Navilens technology, which makes it easy for individuals with impairments to get information by using unique codes that mobile phones can read.
The signage plan will cost €190,000, while the digital tourist card will cost €90,000 to put into place. Both projects are set to start working in the second half of 2026.
