This newspaper has confirmed via sources close to the case that the former couple, whose three-year-old daughter was allegedly murdered by her father in Torrevieja, had a history of complaints of maltreatment in previous relationships.
The 40-year-old Spanish man, who was discovered hanged in the garage of his residence alongside the young girl, had been reported to the police by a former companion of the girl’s mother. The 36-year-old Spanish woman, who resides in Albatera, had also reported a former companion for domestic abuse.

Torrevieja observed a minute of silence this Sunday in remembrance of Ainhara, the juvenile believed to have been murdered by her father, as the investigation continues. The Guardia Civil is currently investigating these events as a case of vicarious violence.
A sombre and mournful ceremony was conducted in front of the Town Hall, with approximately 400 individuals, including residents and public officials, in attendance. The incident was “a very hard blow” for the municipality, as Mayor Eduardo Dolón (PP) acknowledged. On Sunday, he declared, “We are astounded and compelled to contemplate as a community.”
The Guardia Civil discovered the corpses of a 40-year-old man and his three-year-old daughter in the garage of his residence early Saturday morning, which is when the incident was first disclosed. The predominant hypothesis is that the father suffocated his daughter and subsequently committed suicide in the same manner.
The investigation has been initiated as a case of alleged vicarious violence. The mother, who is a resident of Albatera and the man’s ex-partner, visited the police station last Friday night when she was unable to contact her ex. Custody of the infant was shared by the former couple.
Although there were no prior reports of mistreatment, the woman was in a relationship with another man and had been threatened by her ex-partner on numerous occasions, according to the neighbourhood.
After receiving “medical attention” at a local hospital, the victim’s mother and former partner of the alleged perpetrator is “at her usual residence in her hometown, with her immediate family,” according to the mayor. “I declared two days of mourning because I believed that Torrevieja could not awaken this morning without the flags at half-mast, as a gesture of respect—a tribute that ultimately serves to be in close proximity to that life, despite its lack of practical utility,” Dolón explained.
Felipe del Baño, the regional commissioner against violence against women, emphasised that the victims are not isolated and urged the entire society to participate in the effort to eradicate this epidemic. He underscored that the administration is committed to providing assistance, support, protection, and a way out of the situation.
She concluded, “We no longer cease at merely an initial intervention; we continue to support the victims until the end, ensuring that they are provided with a pathway to employment and never again become financially dependent on their abuser. Consequently, they must have faith in the institutions, which are always available to them.”
The City Council is currently anticipating official confirmation from the Government Delegation, which is led by Pilar Bernabé, regarding the formal classification of the case as vicarious violence.
