The Valencian Ministry of Health is conducting an inquiry into the possibility that a 17-year-old girl passed away yesterday, Monday March 23rd, due to meningitis. The girl was admitted to the Dénia Hospital in Alicante with symptoms that were indicative of the disease.
The cause of death has not yet been confirmed as meningitis, as the results of a microbiological analysis are still forthcoming. Sources stated that Public Health has initiated the appropriate protocol and is in the process of contacting the girl’s family and acquaintances, as well as tracing all of her recent contacts, in order to administer chemoprophylaxis. The regional government reiterated that meningitis is predominantly transmitted through respiratory secretions, such as coughing, sneezing, or kissing.
