A new chapter is being written in the case of cannabis societies that are utilised as fronts for drug trafficking. The Guardia Civil has completed Operation Zoo-23, which led to the closure of five establishments in Torrevieja that were used as points of sale for marijuana and hashish. Additionally, officers apprehended seven individuals, aged 19 to 45, from five distinct nationalities, who are accused of committing alleged public health offences in connection with drug trafficking.
The investigation commenced in January of last year when the Torrevieja Main Station established a team to identify and analyse the activities of these types of organisations in the area. In the initial phase, officers identified all known associations in the municipality, ultimately concentrating on five that had sufficient evidence of criminal activity, as per the Guardia Civil.

A cannabis club that was utilised as a façade for the sale of narcotics in Orihuela Costa has been deconstructed.
The same sources also stated that the investigation revealed that these organisations, which were purportedly non-profit entities, were actually drug traffickers. The individuals in command allegedly settled in the town with the intention of constructing these structures, and they acted in an organised manner with a clear profit motive.
On March 16th, Guardia Civil officers conducted eight simultaneous investigations in Torrevieja to prevent the destruction of evidence and the continuation of criminal activity after determining the perpetrators’ involvement.. Subsequently, they confiscated approximately €4,000 in cash, 7.6 kilograms of marijuana, 2.8 kilograms of hashish, 68 marijuana-filled cigarettes, and other cannabis derivatives.
The operation led to the apprehension of seven individuals, who have since been released pending their trial. The judicial authority also ordered the provisional closure of the five associations under investigation as a preventative measure to ensure the safety and well-being of the community. After conducting the searches, the officers worked in conjunction with the Torrevieja Local Police, whose personnel conducted administrative inspections of the premises, identifying a variety of irregularities.
