A car hit three cyclists on the CV-925 in the municipality of Orihuela. One of them was critically hurt, while two others were seriously hurt. Sources from the Guardia Civil Traffic Division said that the accident happened yesterday Wednesday April 8th, at 6:30 p.m. at kilometre 9 of this route, which runs over the dam of the La Pedrera reservoir and is not far from the town of Torremendo.
According to the same sources, the three injured cyclists, who were Irish and 56, 59, and 62 years old, were part of a larger group of six cyclists and were taken to the Hospital Comarcal de la Vega Baja by medical personnel. The Guardia Civil, the Local Police, and several units of the SAMU went to the scene to help the injured.
In the last few years, this road and the CV-950, which connects it, have seen a lot of accidents, some of which have been fatal. It is used for tourism and is often visited by foreign residents in the Vega Baja. There is a lot of traffic on the road, including cars, hikers going to the reservoir, groups of cyclists exercising, and most of all, motorcyclists.

Speed humps
At the end of 2022, the Generalitat put speed bumps on this road and the nearby CV-950 along the whole length that goes over the dam. It is in charge of keeping them up. They also made parking lots at the views that look out over the reservoir because people were organising motorcycle races on the spot, and they still do. A young biker died in a collision with a car on this identical stretch of road a year ago.
