After the governing board approved plans to connect the residential area of the development to the N-332 highway toward Alicante and reorganise vehicle traffic with a roundabout next to the new El Faro school, Santa Pola’s job is to improve traffic flow in Gran Alacant and get rid of two traffic jams.
The first plan comes weeks after Mayor Loreto Serrano, Traffic Councillor Ana Blasco, and the municipal urban planning lawyer, Emilio Jordán, met with technicians from the Highways Unit in Alicante to repeat their request for work to start again on the connection near the old Rocas Blancas hotel, the link to Playa Lisa, and the widening of one of the most dangerous areas in the province of Alicante. In the past, all four municipal groupings had agreed to a motion in the plenary session that repeated this long-standing request.

The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility was also asked to add an on-ramp from Gran Alacant to the meeting. The local government says that the City Council has chosen to have the project written up so that it can be built, but only with the Ministry of Transport’s permission. This is because the central government has “repeatedly failed to respond.”
The local government has already looked into whether the local administration could write the project and make the links between Gran Alacant and Playa Lisa, with permission from the Ministry. Only the first plan would be put into action for now. The goal is to make sure that people who leave Gran Alacant can do so safely and without the risk of accidents, especially because the national highway gets very busy during peak seasons. There is no set date for when the project will be written or how much the effort will cost.
The goal would be to make the roads safe in the same way that the Ministry of Mobility, Transport, and Urban Agenda did a few years ago at km 92.1, right in the lane going to Santa Pola on the N-332. They signed a contract for 196,000 euros in 2022, so it seems likely that this action, but in the opposite direction, would cost more because materials have gotten more expensive in recent years.
A roundabout

The governing board also agreed to make plans for a new roundabout that will connect Avenida de Escandinavia with Calle Monte de Santa Pola, just in front of the town hall. The ruling team says that this infrastructure project is necessary because the new El Faro de Gran Alacant school opened last January and there could be traffic problems when the medical complex is built next door. They think that this change will make traffic move better in the neighbourhood, especially during the busiest times of the day, which are the beginning and conclusion of the school day.
