The Torrevieja City Council has formally asked the Government Sub-delegation and the Ministry of the Interior to send more Guardia Civil officers to the area. They said that the current scenario is one of “extremely serious insecurity.”
The request comes after a number of recent events that have worried people in the town, especially one that happened on the seaside promenade, which is one of the busiest sites for locals and tourists.
During this event, local police officers had to draw their service firearms to stop a person who had done a lot of damage, including cutting all four tyres on a patrol car.
The council wants to make sure that local security forces have the help they need and that surveillance is better at key places in the municipality by asking for more troops.
The goal is to stop more problems and make public safety stronger, especially in places where a lot of people gather.
The request has already been sent to the right people, who can decide if there is a need to send more police officers to Torrevieja based on what the City Council has said.
