Work commenced yesterday, Monday April 20th, to remove the temporary roof that was installed decades ago, marking the commencement of its restoration and future museumisation after obtaining the Ministry of Culture’s approval. This action was delayed for years.
The dismantling of the Plaza de Dalt Bay is a necessary step in the process of resuming the prospective archaeological excavations in the section between the Central Market and the area that has already been worked on. This work will continue throughout the week.
Concurrently, the technical team is engaged in the consolidation of the walls, the treatment of cracks, and the thorough cleansing of the entire site. This intervention marks a significant advancement in the restoration of the historic site, as it removes the temporary canopy that had been in place for years, thereby enabling the display of one of the city’s most distinctive heritage spaces.
The municipal government will unveil the final museum project that the architects are presently developing in the upcoming weeks.
infrastructures
In January, the infrastructure was installed on the tracks; however, technicians are still conducting tests, despite the hoped-for February inauguration.
Residents of the Altabix neighbourhood are still anticipating the opening of the pedestrian flyover, which will connect sector E-4 with sector E-20. Technicians are still conducting testing, despite the fact that the structure was installed over the railway tracks in January. Initially, the expected opening date was February.
The results of the weight testing, which were conducted on Saturday night using a large crane, were positive. The municipal government anticipates that the structure will be inaugurated in the upcoming weeks.
Additionally, technicians are anticipating the opportunity to guarantee pedestrian safety in the vicinity of the footbridge. These actions necessitate authorisation from ADIF, Spain’s railway infrastructure manager. Claudio Guilabert, the councillor for the area, reports that the procedures with this agency are exceedingly sluggish. The councillor guarantees that the City Council will assume responsibility for the necessary tasks if ADIF fails to do so.
The replanting of tree basins is also being implemented to enhance the landscaped areas that surround the infrastructure. The mayor anticipates that the new parks and gardens contract will be operational within a month, enabling the completion of horticulture projects in all of the municipality’s parks.
Work on Alicante Avenue commences with a comprehensive renovation.
The streets on both sides of Alicante Avenue are being completely renovated, with the replacement of the pavement with new, more resilient concrete. More enduring and efficient materials will be employed when the investment exceeds €250,000.
The mayor has stated that this avenue, which is one of the city’s primary thoroughfares, is in dire need of renovation after more than forty years of neglect.
The apparatus will be operating on the avenue for the next two months. The work will be conducted in phases to minimise the disruption to pedestrians, despite the fact that it will not interfere with traffic. Additionally, LEDs will be implemented in lieu of conventional illumination, and the street furniture will be updated throughout the community.
As part of the neighbourhood modernisation strategy, Altabix will continue to make additional improvements to its streets.
