A 39-year-old man was arrested by the Guardia Civil in Benissa (Alicante) for possessing a valid European arrest warrant. The man had evaded Polish authorities and was suspected of being a member of a criminal organisation that specialises in drug trafficking.
According to a statement from the Armed Institute, the Guardia Civil of the Calpe Company (Alicante) identified a man who was driving alone in a vehicle with Polish licence plates at the old AP-7 toll plaza in Benissa on April 13th. The Guardia Civil was conducting a citizen security operational device.
Officers identified him and discovered that he was the subject of a European Arrest Warrant issued by the Katowice-East District Court in Katowice, Poland, which was issued by Polish authorities. He was an active member of a criminal organisation that was involved in the trafficking of drugs between European countries and was a fugitive. The Polish authorities have requested a penitentiary sentence of over 20 years.
After his detention, the Guardia Civil conducted a search of his vehicle and discovered a Faraday case among his possessions. This device is designed to block all signals and prevent the mobile device from being tracked or accessed, thereby rendering it impossible to locate.
The detainee was instructed to be held in provisional detention without bail by the Instruction Section of the Court of First Instance of Denia (Alicante) until his extradition to the Polish authorities.
