The National Police opened the investigation on April 17th after a violent robbery of a luxury watch worth €500,000 at the entrance of a hotel in the Madrid district of Retiro. The entire criminal gang is behind bars. The watches were confiscated during the police raid. The National Police have detained five members of a criminal cell for three robberies with violence and intimidation and one theft of high-end watches in Madrid, Puerto Banús (Málaga) and Benidorm.
The inquiry began on April 17, 2026, following a violent heist of a luxury watch worth €500,000 at the door of a hotel in the Retiro neighbourhood of Madrid. Similar events were reported to investigators at a hotel in Puerto Banús on 19th April, on a public street in Benidorm on 22nd April and on a roadway in the centre of Madrid on 27th December 2025. Then they began to analyse and research all the material available.
Detenciones in Calpe
Through the coordination of the Provincial Judicial Police Brigades of Madrid and Alicante and the Madrid-Centro District Police Station, it was established that the individuals under investigation had been residing in apartments in Calp. On April 22, many police officers were dispatched to the spot where they located, identified and apprehended the perpetrators.
During a full check of the detainees, police located two high-end watches and one imitation watch, all of which had been stolen. One of the goods has already been returned to its owner.
The events culminated in the arrest of the individuals on charges of three counts of robbery with violence and intimidation and one act of theft. The entire group was presented to the court authorities and remanded in detention.
