A rescue operation was launched in Denia on Sunday, May 10th, to save four people who were swept away from the coast by strong winds while practicing paddle surfing. The group, consisting of three adults and one minor, found themselves unable to return to the shore due to the prevailing weather conditions, which pushed them further into open water.
The incident occurred off the coast of the Marina Alta capital, where the group had been enjoying the sea before the wind intensity increased. Emergency services were alerted to the situation, prompting the mobilisation of a Maritime Rescue vessel. The crew managed to locate the four individuals and safely bring them on board.
Once the rescue was completed, the group was transported back to the port of Denia. According to reports from the emergency services, all four people were found to be in good health and did not require further medical assistance upon their arrival at the docks. The swift intervention of the rescue teams prevented the situation from escalating into a more serious emergency.
Authorities have used this incident to remind the public of the importance of checking weather forecasts and wind conditions before heading out to sea, particularly when using inflatable or lightweight equipment like paddle boards, which are highly susceptible to being moved by offshore gusts.
