The Vega Baja Sostenible Consortium has officially opened its first fixed ecopark in Almoradí, a watershed moment for waste management in the region. This new facility, located in the Las Maromas industrial estate, is the first of twelve planned permanent sites designed to improve recycling and waste separation across twenty-seven municipalities.
Representing an investment of over 550,000 euro, the Almoradí ecopark covers an area of 2,500 square metres. It is equipped to handle more than 50 different types of domestic waste, including furniture, batteries, oils, paints and electrical appliances. The facility is expected to serve approximately 36,000 residents from Almoradí, as well as the neighbouring towns of Rafal, Algorfa, Daya Nueva and Daya Vieja.
A key feature of the new site is its digital integration. The facility is fully computerised, allowing residents to register and track the waste they deposit. This system is part of a wider initiative by the Consortium to eventually introduce a rewards programme, providing financial incentives or bonuses to citizens who actively participate in recycling efforts.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several local and regional officials, including the Mayor of Almoradí, María Gómez, and the Provincial Deputy for the Environment, Magdalena Martínez. During the event, speakers highlighted that the establishment of a fixed network is essential for the region to achieve modern sustainability goals and provide residents with accessible locations for disposing of items that cannot be placed in standard street containers.
This site is the first step in a larger provincial project to create a comprehensive network of fixed ecoparks, ensuring that residents throughout the Vega Baja have the necessary infrastructure to manage their household waste responsibly.
