Officers from the National Police have arrested five people at Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport after they were caught attempting to travel using forged documentation. The group, who were all members of the same family, were intercepted by border control agents as they tried to board a flight to the United Kingdom.
The intervention began when airline staff at a check-in desk became suspicious of the Bulgarian passports presented by the family members. Upon being alerted, officers from the airport’s border post conducted a detailed inspection of the documents. Experts confirmed that the passports, which belonged to five adults and one minor, had been partially tampered with, specifically involving the manipulation of one of the internal pages in each booklet.
Following the discovery, the five adults, aged between 19 and 69, were arrested on suspicion of document forgery. The family, who are of Iraqi origin, reportedly intended to use the fraudulent Bulgarian papers to gain entry to the UK. After being processed at the airport police station, the detainees were released with charges pending a future court appearance in Elche.
