A man is facing a potential five-year prison sentence after allegedly biting off part of another man’s ear during a dispute over a parking space in Alicante. The incident, which took place at the city’s port, also reportedly involved an assault on two police officers during the suspect’s arrest.
The events occurred on 28th June 2024 at the ferry terminal serving the Alicante to Oran route, during the busy Operation Crossing the Strait. According to the prosecution, the victim had arrived at the Poniente pier in his vehicle intending to park. He was then approached by the accused, who informed him that the space was reserved for port staff.
A heated argument ensued, during which the defendant is alleged to have bitten the victim’s right ear with such force that a portion of it was severed. Following the violent encounter, National Police officers intervened and took the man into custody, transporting him to the provincial police station.
The prosecution further claims that the defendant maintained a violent attitude whilst at the station. During a search before being placed in the cells, he reportedly punched one officer and kicked another, causing minor injuries to both.
As a result of these actions, the Public Prosecutor’s Office has charged the man with one count of causing injury, one count of assault against authority figures, and two minor counts of causing injury. In total, the state is seeking a custodial sentence of five years.
The trial is scheduled to take place tomorrow, Wednesday 20th May at 10:00 am in the Tenth Section of the Provincial Court of Alicante.
