The La Mata and Torrelamata Neighbourhood Association has welcomed a significant improvement to the bus connections between La Mata and the University Hospital of Torrevieja. The new arrangement is designed to reduce travel times and eliminate the need for passengers to change buses, a move that local residents have campaigned for over a long period.
According to details shared by Antonio Vidal, the Councillor for Transport at Torrevieja City Council, the service will provide a more direct route between the two areas. Previously, many residents were forced to travel into the town centre first before heading out towards the hospital. The update will be particularly beneficial for the elderly, regular outpatients, and residents without their own vehicles, who have historically faced lengthy journeys and long waiting times.
The neighbourhood association also noted that the revised itinerary will bypass several traffic hotspots. The bus will enter the city via Avenida Cortes Valencianas and continue through to the La Veleta roundabout, avoiding the frequent congestion on the N-332 through Torrevieja. It is estimated that the journey will now take between 20 and 30 minutes.
In addition to the improved route, the frequency of the service is being increased. There will be eight daily trips from Monday to Friday, and four daily services during weekends and public holidays. The bus stop is situated near the viaduct access that crosses the N-332, providing a more convenient and straightforward connection for those travelling from La Mata.
