A man is facing more than twelve years in prison after being accused of trying to stab his former wife to death in Denia, in breach of a restraining order.
The events dates back to the morning of 6th June 2025. According to the indictment, the man violated a ban on communicating and approaching his former partner by showing up at her home. The woman opened the door, believing it was one of her children. At that moment, the attacker forced his way into the property holding a knife.
The man allegedly attempted to stab the victim in the chest and abdomen while making death threats. The woman managed to save her own life by raising her arms to protect herself, which resulted in a wound to her left forearm that required stitches. In addition to the physical assault, the prosecution maintains that the accused had previously sent audio messages to the woman’s family members, reiterating his intention to end her life.
The accused, who has been held in pre-trial detention for almost a year, was scheduled to appear in court at the Alicante Provincial High Court. However, the trial has been suspended for two reasons. Firstly, the defendant dismissed his lawyer in the courtroom just minutes before the session was due to start. Secondly, authorities have been unable to locate the victim, who is believed to have recently travelled to Pakistan to attend the funeral of her son.
The prosecution has classified the actions as attempted homicide, two counts of breaching a precautionary measure, and a crime of making threats. The trial has now been postponed until July.
