The construction of the brand new IES Les Salines secondary school is progressing at a steady pace, and the facility is scheduled to open its doors in less than eight months, on 7th January 2027.
An agreement on the official launch date was reached following a site visit to inspect the ongoing works. The meeting involved Andreu Almiñana, the education inspector from the Alicante Territorial Directorate of Education, and José David Gras, a technician from the Construction Unit of the same directorate. They were joined by the director of IES Les Salines, Moisés Pastor, members of the school’s management team, and representatives from the construction firm Vialterra Infraestructuras S.A. The Mayor of Calp, Ana Sala, and the Councillor for Education, Mariola Mulet, were also in attendance.
During the visit, officials verified the advanced status of the construction. Although the facility could technically open at an earlier date, the decision was made to wait until the Christmas holidays have concluded, resuming the academic term in the new buildings on 7th January. This approach ensures all remaining tasks are completely finished and protects against any unforeseen complications.
The project is moving forward in line with the planned schedule, and the formal handover of the works is expected to take place in December. Consequently, students from IES Les Salines will begin the upcoming 2026/2027 academic year in temporary classrooms, which were set up on a municipal plot whilst awaiting the completion of the permanent school. The relocation of furniture and materials to the new site is scheduled to take place during the Christmas break.
The company contracted for the construction is currently putting the finishing touches to the internal installations. The external facades of the building are expected to be completed within two weeks before work moves on to other areas.
