A 45-year-old man has been arrested by the Guardia Civil in Santa Pola as the alleged perpetrator behind multiple counts of fraud involving an awning installation service. The suspect allegedly requested up-front payments for work that was never carried out.
The investigation commenced on 14 April following several reports from local residents who stated they had been deceived in a matching manner. According to investigators, the suspect attracted clients by offering awning installation services, providing them with initial quotes, and requesting either full or partial advance payments. Once he received the funds, he would cut off communication or continuously delay the deadlines without ever executing the contracted work.
Inquiries carried out by the Guardia Civil revealed that the man had allegedly defrauded six victims in the municipality, gathering a total amount exceeding 30,000 euro. It was also discovered that the individual was already wanted by authorities for similar offences, in which he used the internet and social media platforms to attract potential clients.
The Guardia Civil has not ruled out the existence of additional victims and advises anyone who may have been affected by this scheme to contact them for guidance. Following his arrest, the individual was brought before the Instruction Section of the Court of First Instance in Elche, which ordered his immediate remand in prison.
