National Police in Alicante have arrested three individuals caught red-handed while attempting to rob two houses and a high-end vehicle at a car dealership. The successful interventions, which took place between Friday morning and Saturday morning, were made possible thanks to rapid police responses and vital cooperation from local citizens.
The most unusual incident involved a 33-year-old Spanish man who was accompanied by his 13-year-old son during an attempted break-in. The incident took place just after 1:00 a.m. last Saturday 30th May, in the San Blas neighbourhood. The 091 emergency line received a call from a resident who reported that two people were trying to force open a door at a property.
Patrols from the Citizen Security Brigade and the Central District Police Station arrived swiftly at the scene. A witness pointed out the suspects, who attempted to flee as soon as they noticed the police arriving. While two other individuals acting as lookouts managed to escape, authorities intercepted the father and son.
The resident who raised the alarm explained to officers that he was inside his home with family members when they heard noises at the door. Looking outside, they witnessed someone attempting to force entry. The suspects first targeted the entrance of a building, and when that failed, they moved to a single-storey house across the street, attempting to kick the door open and use a chisel.
Realising they had been spotted and that the police were closing in, the pair began to leave, throwing tools onto the ground. Officers recovered a chisel and a wrench from the scene. Upon identifying the suspects, police discovered they were a father and his 13-year-old son. Because the minor is below the age of criminal responsibility, he could not be arrested. Police contacted the child’s mother, who took custody of the minor, whilst the father was arrested and taken to the Provincial Police Station cells ahead of his appearance before the Alicante court.
Another burglary was thwarted in the northern part of Alicante at around 9:30 a.m. last Friday. The 091 emergency line was alerted to a break-in at a house where the front door had been kicked in.
Officers from the Operational Response Group (GOR) of the North District Police Station rushed to the address, where neighbours informed them that the thief was still inside. Taking safety and self-protection measures, officers prepared to enter the property.
Inside the residence, officers found several items already gathered by the front door, ready to be taken. They located the suspect, a 26-year-old Algerian man, who attempted to deceive them by claiming that he lived at the property. Officers quickly established this was a lie and that he had gained entry by kicking the door open. He was arrested on the spot.
The final arrest involved a 19-year-old Moroccan man who was intercepted by police as he walked along the A-70 motorway after fleeing a car dealership.
The incident began around 9:00 p.m. last Friday, 29th May. Officers from the Motorcycle Group “Rayos” of the Prevention and Reaction Unit (UPR), along with the North District GOR, deployed to the highway following reports of a pedestrian walking along the road. Whilst dealing with the man, they received a second report indicating that he had attempted to rob a high-end car dealership just minutes earlier.
An employee at the dealership had been with a customer when he heard noises near the workshop. Upon investigating, he surprised a young man who had forced his way inside a parked car in the lot and was tampering with the glove compartment. The thief fled on foot, jumped over the perimeter fence, and disappeared. A driver on the highway who had witnessed the suspect later recognised him alongside the officers. The arrested teenager was found in possession of a spark plug, which police believe was used to shatter the vehicle’s window.
