The National Police have arrested a 23-year-old man in Alicante who is wanted by French authorities for his suspected involvement in a stabbing attack where the victim was stabbed ten times. The arrestee was the subject of a European Arrest Warrant for an assault offence that took place in 2020 in the French town of Pantin.
The investigation was initiated after officers learned that the wanted individual had previously been detained in Alicante under a different identity. Following this discovery, the International Fugitives Group of the Central Commissariat of the Judicial Police notified the National Police in Alicante.
Officers conducted the necessary verifications and confirmed that the man was using multiple identities. This verification allowed them to establish his true identity and confirm that he was subject to the judicial warrant issued by France.
After confirming the identity of the wanted man, investigators discovered that he was no longer at the police facilities. Consequently, a search operation was set up, which successfully located and detained him in the city of Alicante.
The events for which he was wanted date back to 2020, when, according to the French warrant, the fugitive allegedly participated in a group attack against another man in Pantin. During the assault, the victim received ten stabs which caused serious injuries.
The offence for which he is wanted carries a maximum penalty of two years of deprivation of liberty.
Following his arrest, the detained individual has been placed at the disposal of the Central Training Court of the National High Court, the body responsible for processing the European Arrest Warrant proceedings and the preliminary steps before a potential extradition.
