A man has been arrested after attempting to drown a young woman in the water and subsequently trying to push a child’s head into the sand, in an incident that took place on Tuesday, 2nd June, at Poniente Beach in Benidorm.
Sources close to the investigation say that at the moment the detained man attempted to submerge the young woman’s head under the water, her partner intervened and a scuffle ensued, at which point the alleged aggressor moved towards the shoreline.
According to the same account, once at the shore, he attempted to force a child’s head under the sand with the intention of suffocating them. At that point, more people intervened, including the beach’s chief lifeguard, who lunged at the man and subdued him.
Officers from the local beach police arrived at the scene and arrested the man, who was subsequently handed over to the National Police.
Sources close to the case havesaid that the man is currently in provisional prison, and they are waiting for a forensic evaluation to diagnose whether he suffers from any type of disorder or if he was under the influence of any narcotic substances when the events took place.
