Two men have been arrested in Denia after being caught with more than two kilograms of cocaine as they prepared to board a ferry bound for Ibiza.
The arrests took place at the port of Denia during a routine inspection carried out by officers from the Fiscal and Border Detachment of the Guardia Civil. The officers were conducting standard checks to prevent smuggling, drug trafficking, and fiscal offences when they selected a vehicle for closer inspection. The behaviour of the occupants during the boarding process had raised suspicions.
A thorough search of the vehicle and the luggage inside uncovered several vacuum-sealed bags hidden among clothing in a suitcase. Tests conducted on the substance inside the bags confirmed it was cocaine.
The two occupants of the vehicle, aged 24 and 30, were immediately arrested on suspicion of offences against public health. In addition to the 2.039 kilograms of cocaine, officers seized 3,400 euro in cash, three mobile phones, and the vehicle used by the suspects.
The detained men were brought before the Instruction Section of the Court of First Instance in Denia. The court ordered both individuals to be remanded in provisional custody without bail. The Guardia Civil is continuing its investigation to establish the origin and final destination of the drugs, and further action regarding the case has not been ruled out.
