The Alicante Local Police participated in an international meeting this week with officers from Austin in Texas, United States, and the German state of Hessen, as part of the Star Internacional programme. The initiative aims to promote the exchange of experiences, knowledge and ideas regarding security and police work.
Three American police officers and one German officer took part in the activity. During their stay, they accompanied a municipal patrol on surveillance duties at Postiguet beach and also visited the headquarters of the Local Police.
Star Internacional promotes police cooperation
Star Internacional is a non-profit association made up of officers from various countries. Its objective is to promote professional training through exchange programmes between police forces.
Additionally, the organisation carries out charity campaigns related to the fight against illnesses and social problems such as cancer, Alzheimer’s, hearing loss, childhood trauma and school bullying.
During the exchange held in Alicante, the visiting officers learnt first-hand about the technical resources and facilities of the Local Police. They also showed an interest in the internal organisation of the force and its working methods, in order to evaluate their potential application in their respective departments.
Knowledge exchange and the creation of international networks
The Councillor for Security, Julio Calero, highlighted the usefulness of this type of initiative. “These exchanges are very interesting because they allow the sharing of professional and personal experiences with colleagues from other countries and the discovery of new working methods to face common problems,” he pointed out.
Furthermore, he added that “They are also useful for analysing the equipment available to the different participating police units and for establishing a valuable network of contacts with police from countries such as the United States, Germany, Switzerland and Spain.”
