The PP municipal group has announced that the courts are forcing Alcoy City Council to pay nearly 8,000 euro due to late payment interest and costs arising from delayed payments. According to councillor Amalia Paya, this represents a new judicial ruling against Alcoy City Council stemming from the management of the socialist government led by Toni Frances.
The popular group noted that the ruling obliges the local council to pay 7,987.10 euro. Out of this total, 7,627.10 euro corresponds to late interest and 360 euro to collection expenses, all resulting from the late payment of certifications linked to the construction works of the Cervantes pedestrian walkway. They pointed out that according to official documentation approved by the Local Government Board, the Instance Tribunal of Alicante, Contentious-Administrative Section number 4, upheld the appeal filed by the company that carried out the work through ruling 165/2026 on 27th March. This appeal was lodged against the inactivity of Alcoy City Council regarding a payment claim.
Amalia Paya stated that this is a new example of a local council being a bad payer, unable to comply with its obligations in a timely manner, with its neglect ultimately being corrected by the courts. She added that this resolution demonstrates, once again, the poor economic management and the lack of diligence in fulfilling payment obligations to supplier companies. Paya remarked that this case confirms an unacceptable practice where the council ends up paying more money for not paying on time. Consequently, she argued that the poor management of Toni Frances not only harms the companies working for the town but also finishes by costing additional money to all residents of Alcoy.
Furthermore, Paya added that it is particularly serious that it was necessary to resort to judicial channels to claim interest arising from delayed payments by the municipal administration, and that the council finally had to recognise the ruling and approve the deposit of the judicially fixed amounts. For all these reasons, the political group is demanding explanations from Mayor Toni Frances regarding the reasons that caused this judicial claim, and they are also calling for transparency concerning the payment management of the council and the possible economic damages derived from administrative delays.
