National Police officers, in collaboration with the Local Police, have arrested a total of 12 people in Denia. They are suspected of intellectual property theft for running street market stalls in a well-known market in the town, where a joint operation led to the seizure of 2,277 counterfeit items.
The investigation began following information received by the Judicial Police Brigade of the Denia Police Station regarding the potential sale of clothing from highly demanded and prestigious brands.
Police attention was focused heavily on sports kit shirts belonging to national football teams and the clubs where the most popular players usually play, as these items are currently highly sought after by consumers.
Officers launched a discreet operation around the street market, which is held weekly every Monday in the Torrecremada Park area of Denia. The investigation revealed that several stalls at this market were indeed selling clothing and bags from various well-known brands. The public selling price was significantly lower than that of the original products, a classic sign of intellectual property crime.
Following further investigations, a raid was carried out with support from the Public Safety Brigade of the National Police from the Denia Police Station, alongside officers from the Prevention and Public Safety Unit of the Local Police. A judicial expert also participated to represent the affected brands.
Ultimately, the operation resulted in the arrest of the 12 stallholders as suspected perpetrators of the investigated crime. Following the initial police proceedings, all actions and evidence have been passed on to the local courts.
