The AP-7 motorway experienced significant traffic disruption yesterday afternoon, Thursday 11th June following a vehicle fire as it passed through Villajoyosa.
The incident affected the Valencia-bound lanes, resulting in slow-moving traffic that stretched for approximately two kilometres. Social media users caught in the gridlock highlighted the delays, with one motorist commenting, “We’ve been stuck on the AP-7 for half an hour.”
Caution advised for motorists
The Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) issued an alert shortly after the fire broke out, announcing the total closure of the road heading towards Valencia. The closure remained in effect until 4:30 p.m. when the lanes were safely reopened to traffic. At present, official information indicates disruptions caused solely by the burning vehicle, with no further details available regarding the cause of the incident or any potential injuries.
This was the second major disruption on the motorway today, following an earlier accident this morning on the AP-7 as it passed through Pedreguer and Denia. That initial collision forced the temporary closure of the left lane heading towards Alicante, though the DGT confirmed the incident was fully resolved minutes before noon.
