The PSOE political party in Alicante has publicly denounced the area’s new TAM (Metropolitan Accessible Transport) contract, claiming it creates an unfair imbalance by prioritising transport links to the airport over connections to the city’s outlying rural districts (las partidas).
The socialist group has presented a series of formal objections to the draft contract in a bid to prevent this transport inequality. Through these objections, the PSOE aims to secure a commitment to reinforce bus frequencies to the rural districts and to promote full fare integration for the bus line serving the Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport. They argue that this airport service should be integrated into the metropolitan system, allowing passengers to travel on the same standard ticket price as other local routes.
Speaking on the issue, a representative for the party, Ruiz, stated that they want a better metropolitan transport network, but also one that is fairer. Ruiz concluded by noting that Alicante cannot be left as the great forgotten element of a transport contract that primarily affects its local residents.
